Launching Ebbsfleet Community Church

We’ve done it! On Sunday the 9th September we launched Ebbsfleet Community Church. We met in the new house and filled the kitchen with people of all ages, chatting and catching up. As we begin we feel the Holy Spirit is leading us towards becoming a house church, at least over the next few months.

We shared a pastry breakfast, coffee, and lots of conversation before having a time of worship and creative prayer. We each made a book mark for our Bible’s with the words “I have written your name on the palm of my hand!” (Isaiah 49) and spent some time thinking about God’s unique love for each of us, that he knows us and treasures us more than we can ever know.

We then looked at Philippians 3 and Paul’s words:

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

As we read this passage we were reminded that we are beginning a new adventure, and that Jesus has taken hold of each one of us to play a unique roll in his kingdom mission. We each have a destiny and a calling, a roll and a value that is uniquely ours, no-one else can “be” or “do” your calling. Christ took hold of you, you have a goal and a prize, press on to take hold of your destiny.

For all of us this involves the surrendered transformation of a trusting heart. As we begin this new journey we are open to the transformation of a renewed mind, where we allow the Holy Spirit to help us do some forgetting, some remembering, and lots of brave dreaming.

We are very excited and expectant for all that the Lord has for us… a revival and a wonderful harvest.
