Christmas Hamper Give Away

Over the past few months we have been supporting local foodbanks with donations of food and money. As part of this we invited the wider community here at Ebbsfleet Green to contribute too by leaving donaitons in a wooden crate left outside the Manse each Sunday.

Over the months the local community’s donations have grown and it has become part of the routine of the week.

Seeing the growing success and support for the Foodbank we felt able to take a further step and begin a focused project for Christmas. One of our people, who had completed Alpha with us last year, had a link to one of our local schools in Swanscombe and made enquiries with the Family Laision Team there.

They we delighted to accept our offer of upto 30 Hamper Boxes full of Christmas treats to be passed on to local families in need. The school had the links and knowledge of the familes to be able to do this sensitively and appropriately. This will hopefully be an annual project and one that grows to include other schools.

Items we would like to put in the boxes include:

Mince Pies (with a Best Before Date after December 31st), Christmas Cake (small), Christmas Pudding, Chocolate selection box 600g + (Celebrations/Quality Street etc.), Cheese (please check Best Before Date, and we have refrigeration facilities), Crackers and buscuits, Random sweets and treats…We as a church will add satsumas and apples at the last minute before they are delivered.

We also forged links with our friends at Ebbsfleet Baptist Church to help support the project on Castle Hill.

The local Co-Op shops have also offered their support and have collection boxes in both their Ebbsfleet stores. We were very grateful for this offer and through our conversations we have high hope to have their support on other community initiatives going forward.

As I write the donations have been coming in thick and fast! We may need a bigger garage as these projects grow!
